NEW: Free competitive M&E benchmarking

Marketing Manchester & Venue Performance have formed a strategic partnership to provide meeting and events hotels and venues in Greater Manchester with ongoing competitive performance analysis, and would like to invite our Business Tourism Partners to get involved.

Early adopters of the service will benefit from a three month FOC trial with no commitment to continue with the service after the initial trial period. If early adopters do commit, they will then also benefit from a further discount on top of the Marketing Manchester member rate.

NEW: Have you considered signing up to TXGB?

Marketing Manchester is encouraging its partners who have bookable product to sign up to VisitBritain’s integrated booking platform TXGB, and take advantage of being able to reach new audiences.

Partners can connect their product to TXGB by linking their booking systems, then once set up they can choose from various distribution platforms to connect to, including visitmanchester.com, the VisitBritain Online Shop, Get Your Guide, and TripAdvisor. Their products will then be visible and bookable for consumers on these third party sites, leading to increasing bookings.

When signed up to the platform, partners can also get involved in TXGB campaigns such as the recent National Lottery Days Out initiative, which is proving very successful for partners taking part, including RHS Garden Bridgewater and Scranchester Tours.

NEW: Join a new tourism platform targeting Chinese students in the UK

Marketing Manchester partner Digipanda Marketing is inviting fellow Marketing Manchester partners to join their newly developed tourism platform tourmaster.cn, which is targeting Chinese students in UK; a profitable and largely untapped sub-sector of the current domestic leisure market.

Partners provide Digipanda with a short advertorial (including images and texts) that they will insert eblasts that direct potential buyers to your online booking page. You will need to offer a discount to the students to motivate them to click through the URL in the advertorial and when students use the discount code this will help you to track purchases that result from tourmaster.cn. Commission back to Digipanda can then be settled regularly, based on an agreed commission rate.

It is free to join the initiative, which would work especially well with paid for attractions, hotels and retail and hospitality businesses that sell and use gift vouchers that they could potentially discount.

Greater Manchester hospitality sector invited to join Streetsmart initiative this winter

For 23 years, every November and December, hundreds of top restaurants help their local communities by taking part in StreetSmart, adding just £1 to customers bills in November and December. The Greater Manchester launch for this initiative – supported by eat.mcr and in partnership with Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity – takes place on Thursday 21 October and will help raise vital funds for homelessness causes.

Speaking about the initiative, Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, said:  “I hope our businesses and the generous Greater Manchester public will get on board with StreetSmart. We have a huge challenge ahead in preventing an increase in homelessness coming out of the pandemic and we will rise to it if everyone plays their part.”

The Manchester Sports Awards returns in November 2021, as the city celebrates the immense hard work of local athletes, clubs, coaches, volunteers, schools and unsung heroes that are the lifeblood of sport in Manchester.

The event is hosted by Olympic bronze medallist and respected sports broadcaster Katharine Merry and will feature Team GB athletes from the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games acting as award presenters.  The awards offer Manchester businesses a great opportunity to build their profile and support fantastic local schemes, with a range of sponsorship options.

2022 stories and anniversaries

As we head into autumn, now is an important time for our press team to start gathering key stories for 2022 that can be worked into key documents used to pitch Greater Manchester to travel journalists and outlets.

Every year our press team attempts to secure Greater Manchester in annual ‘Where to go’ lists that are usually published in January and inform readers of which destinations they should visit and why for the year ahead. Journalists usually need ideas and information to compile these lists by early October, allowing a three-month window for print deadlines.

As a Marketing Manchester partner, therefore, you are invited to send us any big news that you think might grab the interest of journalists – new attractions, major exhibitions, big anniversaries, hotel refurbishments, new tours etc. This is an opportunity to use our press team to not only amplify your own news, but to create wider footfall and visitation to Greater Manchester by drawing attention to key reasons to visit in 2022.

We already know Greater Manchester is going to be thrown into the spotlight due to major developments such as the opening of The Factory in late 2022 and the reopening of Manchester Museum with several new galleries in autumn 2022; however, what else do we need to know about?

Did you know that as part of our role as Greater Manchester’s Destination Management Organisation we have a dedicated tourism analyst who undertakes a research and intel function, helping us to understand the current tourism climate and strategise for the future of the sector? As we recover from the impact of Covid-19, this work is essential for helping us to make sense of how Greater Manchester’s tourism economy – worth £9 billion and supporting over 100,000 jobs – is tracking and what we need to do to not only return to pre-Covid levels of activity, but to grow beyond it.

With this in mind, if you think you would benefit from receiving research updates, you can do so by joining our circulation list. The type of information that you will receive will include documents like our One Stop Intelligence Factsheet, which brings together many of our tourism research and data points into one place, and is continually updated .

Coming up in the next few months are several new reports due including the latest STEAM data release which values the tourism economy by value and jobs and will provide a top level insight into the impact of Covid-19 on the tourism sector. There will also be findings and key insights to share from the final wave of the NatWest Tourism Business Barometer which has been taking the temperature of Covid-19 recovery with input from over a hundred businesses across the north of England, as well as an update on hotel performance across Greater Manchester several months after they have been able to fully reopen.
