Latest guidance on local restrictions
Following the UK Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday 12 October, as things currently stand, all of Greater Manchester has been placed in the tier two “high” category of the three alert levels.
The “high” alert level reflects many of the current local interventions that have been applicable to Greater Manchester for some months. This primarily aims to reduce household to household transmission by preventing all mixing between households or support bubbles indoors. The Rule of Six will apply in outdoor spaces, including private gardens.
This means that the full list of restrictions that currently apply in Greater Manchester state:
- you must not socialise with anybody outside of your household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place;
- you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 outside, including in a garden or other spaces like beaches or parks (other than where specific exemptions apply in law);
- businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a COVID-secure manner, other than those that remain closed in law;
- certain businesses are required to ensure customers only consume food and drink while seated, and must close between 10pm and 5am;
- businesses and venues selling food for consumption off the premises can continue to do so after 10pm as long as this is through delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-through;
- schools, universities and places of worship remain open;
- weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on the number of attendees;
- exercise classes and organised sport can continue to take place outdoors. These will only be permitted indoors if it is possible for people to avoid mixing with people they do not live with or share a support bubble with, or for youth or disability sport;
- you can continue to travel to venues or amenities that are open, for work or to access education, but should look to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible.
You should continue to:
- follow social distancing rules;
- work from home where you can effectively do so;
- walk or cycle where possible, or plan ahead and avoid busy times and routes on public transport.

#GreenSalford celebrated in series of films
A series of eight short films celebrating Salford’s abundance of beautiful green spaces has been produced by Marketing Manchester on behalf of Salford City Council and the University of Salford.
Part of a broader storytelling partnership designed to promote Salford as a brilliant place to live, work, invest, visit and study, the films demonstrate Salford’s green credentials through interviews with individuals linked to a variety of green locations across the city.
The films provide a broad overview of the different types of green space in Salford, with interviewees ranging from local families to park rangers to gardeners, community groups, academics and the head of the new RHS Garden Bridgewater in Worsley.
This set of films is just the start of the work we will be delivering to demonstrate and promote Greater Manchester’s green ambitions and credentials over the next year in the run up to COP26.
Greater Manchester launches two major public consultations
Last week Greater Manchester launched two major public consultations to get a wide range of views on the city-region’s plans to reduce harmful air pollution on local roads and to introduce minimum standards for all taxis and private hire services licensed in the region.
People and businesses across the region and beyond are being invited to help shape the final plans by taking part in the consultations, which run until 23:59 on Thursday 3 December 2020.

VisitBritain’s second series of Business Recovery webinars start today, with a look at the Latest Inbound and Domestic Research and Insights, followed by sessions on Tour Guiding (21 October), Destination Marketing (5 November), Micro-businesses (24 November), We’re Good to Go (26 November) and Creating Great Content (8 December). They have also partnered with Google Digital Garage to help you Create Videos with YouTube (3 December), and Find Customers with Google Maps (10 December).
Also upcoming are two new webinars for the Business Events sector. The first will focus on the Power of Digital Marketing (15 October), and the second will look at Working with Ambassadors as a route to Successful Bidding (26 November).
And there is also a new series of webinars for UK Travel Trade, focusing on market trends and insights on India (13 October), China (20 October) and Southern Europe (22 October).
