PROGRESS 21 Global will bring together the business leadership community from across Greater Manchester to unite behind global promotion campaigns to support recovery from the pandemic. Focused on ambitions to regain our position as a successful global powerhouse, the event will discuss plans to progress sustainable and inclusive economic recovery; attracting business and capital investment, as well as reigniting the visitor economy.

The GM Mayor, Andy Burnham, and LEP Chair, Lou Cordwell, will be joined by leading business figures to learn about Greater Manchester’s economic vision and global plans.

The event facilitated by the Growth Company’s dedicated international teams, Marketing Manchester and MIDAS, includes a main plenary, followed by a number themed sessions across Green, Digital, Innovation and the Visitor Economy:

  • GM Digital City Region – Digital growth is a key driver of levelling up agenda and future economic growth. Greater Manchester’s digital economy is worth £5 billion, with the potential to be worth £7 billion by 2029. This session will cover GM’s digital strengths and reputation and the potential to position the city region as a digital exemplar on a global scale.
  • Innovation Greater Manchester: a blueprint for GM to work with Government to create a local-national innovation partnership, aimed at £7bn economic benefit and 100,000 jobs. This session will explore how GM is ready to act as a national engine of growth leading the way in levelling up through science and innovation.
  • GM’s Clean Growth Mission for Carbon Neutral Living: As leaders leverage devolved powers to ensure Greater Manchester becomes the carbon neutral capital of the UK; green innovation is being driven by a number of exemplar developments and ambitions. This session will explore Greater Manchester’s ambitious plan to become carbon neutral by 2038; and inspire partners to become involved.
  • Tourism and Hospitality: The Pandemic has wiped out over 70% of the value of the visitor economy to Greater Manchester, however, the sector is poised to make a strong comeback. This session will hear from some of the key players who are investing in the city’s visitor infrastructure: where will growth come from, what will the new visitor experience provide and why does GM continue to inspire confidence?

The event will provide the first opportunity since the pandemic began to bring together, in-person, stakeholders and business leaders from across Greater Manchester and building confidence in the city-region by physically demonstrating how we can safely work together and advance our ambitions.
